Complete Exterior Membrane Refurbishment and Replacement of Gable Curtains With Sectional Doors
Background
The Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC) in College Park, MD is one of the premier facilities of its type anywhere in North America. It has developed many prominent players including Francis Tiafoe, multiple ATP tournament champion and 16th ranked player in the world in 2023. The heart of the center is three multi-court indoor structures installed in the early 2000’s. Due to age and UV degradation, the exterior membrane had reached the end of its useful life.
Solution
Hundreds of players rely on the facilities at JTCC to train. Shutting down the facility during the renovation was out of the question. Unfortunately, until Signature came along, this was standard practice in the industry for refurbishments. This was the exact problem Signature sought to overcome when we developed our proprietary refurbishment system for tension fabric structures. The system is designed to minimize interior work allowing all hanging systems to remain in place. Signature was able to perform the work with disrupting the club’s activities– in fact, they practiced inside the facility every day during the refurbishment!
Details
Our approach included a system consisting large Ferrari 702 aluminum colored opaque membrane blue border. This was a change from the original white/tennis green color scheme so common on indoor tennis structures– the aluminum and blue not only better matched their logo, but it is a longer life fabric as well. The design included membrane panels that covered the existing membrane roof and walls in full. Later, JTCC hired Signature to replace their antiquated system of gable curtain walls with beautiful blue aluminum sectional doors.
