Heritage Amphitheatre

Background

The Heritage Amphitheatre is Western Canada’s largest out-door Amphitheatre. It has fixed-seating for 1,128 patrons in the safety of a permanent structure with additional festival seating for 2,372 on attractively landscaped grassy slopes, for a comfortable capacity of 3,500 patrons. One of the most distinctive elements of the Amphitheatre is the white canopy which offers excellent acoustics and an open view of William Hawrelak Park.

The Challenge

A wind storm in 2013 ripped the canopy, forcing the replacement of the canopy in 2014. The original manufacturer of the canopy was not available to perform the replacement, which meant that the City needed to find another firm capable of reverse-engineering the original canopy, and designing and installing the replacement.

Solution

Signature was uniquely qualified to provide these services for these structures despite not being the original manufacturer, as our engineers, technicians and project managers have more experience working on structures from a multitude of OEMs than anyone else in the industry.

The Result

The replacement was a success and activities and festivals such as the Freewill Shakespeare Festival, which were forced to temporarily relocate, returned, bringing over 50,000 people annually to the Park.
