Background
Festival Plaza is a downtown plaza for outdoor performances as well as a gathering place for residents and visitors. Festival Plaza has seating areas, water features, and passive recreation space. The Plaza featured shade sail structures that had reached the end of their useful life. The City wanted to replace the system with a more modern and dramatic structure that would be a focal center point of the Plaza.
The Challenge
The City wanted a complete redesign that utilized a modern shade sail system while still incorporating the original columns. In order to do so, all of the components of the system including plates, cables, and fabric patterns had to be re-engineered.
Solution
Few companies in the industry could fill this requirement. It necessitated a team of qualified designers and engineers that could work with an established foundation and columns yet fabricate something completely new and modern. Signature specializes in retrofitting and refurbishing tensile and tension fabric structures regardless of the original manufacturer and was able to deliver a dramatic solution.
The Result
The dramatic shade sail structures make Festival Plaza a centerpiece of Downtown Auburn.
